ANSWER
šŗ1ļøā£ SUHOOR time
As for the duaa for Suhoor, thereās NO specific duaa to be said thatās proven from the authentic practice or teachings of the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam.
Remember, the intention is an action of the HEART.
We should resolve in our HEART that we are going to fast today.
That is ALL we need.
It is NOT from the Shareeāah to say out loud, "I intend to fast", "I will fast tomorrow" etc as some people do.
šIbn Taymiyah said:
āWhoever thinks in his heart that he will fast tomorrow has formed the intention.āĀ
Also, there is NO SPECIFIC DUAA to be recited at the time of starting the fast thatās proven from the Sunnah.
Some people say the following:
āŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŲŖŁ ŲµŁŁŁŁ Ł ŲŗŲÆŲ§Ł
āŁŁŲØŁŲµŁŁŁŁ Ł ŲŗŁŲÆŲ§Ł ŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŲŖŁ
BUT, thereās NO PROOF of this from the authentic Sunnah.
Rather it is BIDāAH.
šThe scholars said:
āThe intention is an action of the heart.
The Muslim should resolve in his heart that he is going to fast tomorrow.
It is not prescribed for him to utter it out loud and say,
āŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŲŖŁ ŲµŁŁŁŁ Ł ŲŗŲÆŲ§Ł
āI intend to fast tomorrowā or
āŲ£ŲµŁŁ ŲŗŲÆŲ§Ł ŁŁ
āI will fast tomorrowā or other phrases that have been innovated by some people.ā
(Islamqa Fatwa 37643)
šŗ2ļøā£ IFTAAR time
šAnd as for a specific duaa to be said at the time of breaking the fast, then the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam said:
āŲ°ŁŲØ Ų§ŁŲøŁ Ų£ ŁŲ§ŲØŲŖŁŲŖ Ų§ŁŲ¹Ų±ŁŁ ŁŲ«ŲØŲŖ Ų§ŁŲ£Ų¬Ų± Ų„Ł Ų“Ų§Ų” Ų§ŁŁŁ
āDhahaba al-āzamaā wa abtallat al-āurooq wa thabata al-ajr in sha Allaah
āthe thirst is gone, the veins have been moistened and the reward is assured, if Allaah wills).ā
(Abu Dawood, al-Bayhaqi; classed as hasan).
šThe hadeeth with the words
āAllaahumma laka sumtu wa āala rizqika aftartuā¦.
āŲ§ŁŁŁŁ ŁŁ ص٠ت ŁŲ¹ŁŁ Ų±Ų²ŁŁ Ų£ŁŲ·Ų±ŲŖ
This is a daāeef (weak) hadeeth , as stated by various scholars of hadeeth.
šRegarding this hadeeth, the scholars said:
āThe duāa āAllahumma laka sumtu wa āala rizqika aftartu
(O Allaah, for You have I fasted and by Your provision I have broken my fast)ā was narrated by Abu Dawud, 2358.
It is a mursal hadeeth so it is daāeef (weak).
Shaikh al-Albaani classed it as daāeef in Daāeef Abi DawudĀ (510).ā
(Islamqa Fatwa 26879)
Therefore, it is better to avoid this duaa and stay with the authentic one.
šAlso remember that itās good to make your own duaa just before iftaar time.
Thatās because our duaa is not rejected at that time.
šThe Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam said:
"Three prayers are NOT REJECTED: the prayer of a parent, the prayer of a fasting person, and the prayer of a traveler." (al-Bayhaqi, saheeh by al-Albaani).
šŗWhen to make our duaaā
šShaikh ibn āUthaymeen said:
āDuaa should be made BEFORE iftaar (breaking the fast), at Maghrib, because this combines weakness and humility, and because he is still fasting.
All of these are means of having oneās duaaā answered.
After breaking the fast, one is relaxed and happy, and may become negligent.
But there is a hadeeth from the Prophet Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam which, if it is saheeh, shows that the duāaaā may be made after breaking the fast.
It says:
ā" Ų°ŁŲØ Ų§ŁŲøŁ Ų£ ŁŲ§ŲØŲŖŁŲŖ Ų§ŁŲ¹Ų±ŁŁ ŁŲ«ŲØŲŖ Ų§ŁŲ£Ų¬Ų± Ų„Ł Ų“Ų§Ų” Ų§ŁŁŁ "
āThirst has gone, the veins are moist, and the reward is assured, if Allaah wills.ā(Abu Dawood; hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood, 2066). This can only mean AFTER breaking the fast.ā
So as the Shaikh said, first we can make our own duaa THEN break our fast THEN say this above duaa.
And Allaah knows best
