‎وَاصْبِرْ نَفْسَكَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُم بِالْغَدَاةِ وَالْعَشِيِّ يُرِيدُونَ وَجْهَهُ

"And keep yourself (O Muhammad ﷺ) patiently with those who call on their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His Face... "

Here Allaah is telling the Prophet ﷺ to keep good company.

Wait...who?

The Prophet ﷺ?!

Subhaan Allaah!

Who could be stronger in his Imaan than the Prophet ﷺ?!

And who could have more taqwa of Allaah than him ﷺ?!

Yet, STILL if Allaah is telling HIM to keep good company, then...

WHAT ABOUT me and you?!

Just shows how much our 'company' and friends INFLUENCE us.

🍃 The Prophet ﷺ said:

"A person follows the way of his friend; so each one should consider whom he makes his friend."

(Abu Dawood-- hasan by al-Albaani)

🍃And the Prophet ﷺ also said:

“The likeness of a good companion and a bad companion is that of one who carries musk and one who works the bellows.

With the carrier of musk, either he will give you some or you will buy some from him, or you will notice a good smell from him; as for the one who works the bellows, either he will burn your clothes or you will notice a bad smell from him.”

(al-Bukhaari, 1995; Muslim, 2628)

And that’s why the Prophet ﷺ warned us from making friends with those that are not religious or righteous.

🍃He ﷺ said:

“Do not keep company with anyone but a believer and do not let anyone eat your food but one who is pious.”

(al-Tirmidhi, 2395; Abu Dawood, 4832; hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 2519)

Friendship will turn to enmity on the Day of Resurrection, if this friendship was not based on the obedience of Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala.

🍃Allaah says:

“Friends on that Day will be foes one to another except Al-Muttaqoon (the pious)” [az-Zukhruf 43:67].

🍃Al-Qurtubi said:

“Friends on that Day” i.e., the Day of Resurrection “will be foes one to another” i.e., they will be enemies to one another and will curse one another “except Al-Muttaqoon (the pious)” who will be friends in this world and in the Hereafter.”

(Tafseer al-Qurtubi, 16/95)

🍃And Ibn Katheer said:

“That is, every friendship that was for the sake of anything other than Allaah will, on the Day of Resurrection, turn into enmity, EXCEPT for that which was for the sake of Allaah, may He be glorified and exalted; it will last for ever.”

(Tafseer Ibn Katheer 7/237)

🍃Shaikh ibn Baaz said:

“Keeping company with good people is one of the best of deeds that bring one closer to Allaah, and is one of the best means of attaining blessing.

On the other hand, keeping company with bad people such as disbelievers and those who commit sin openly is not permissible, and is one of the things that lead to a bad end and cause one to adopt their attitudes and deeds.

What the believer must do is try hard to keep company with good people and avoid keeping company with bad people.”

(Fataawa Islamiyyah, 4/206, 207)

So surround yourself with righteous people, those who remind you of Allaah and help you stay steadfast in the straight path.

And stay away from those who will be a cause of embarrassment for you on the Day of Judgment.

It's a DIRECT ORDER from your Rabb.
