If one of the odd nights falls on a Friday, is it more likely to be Laylatul-Qadr?

ANSWER

It is true that “some” of the scholars were of the opinion that if one of the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadhaan, coincides with the night of Friday, then the chances of it being Laylatul Qadr are increased.

🍃Ibn Rajab reported that Ibn Hubayrah said if an odd night from the final 10 nights of Ramadhaan happens to coincide with the night of Jumu'ah - it would entail a higher chance of that night being the night of power; virtue and decree (Laylatul Qadr).”

(Lataa’if al-Ma‘aarif by Ibn Rajab p. 203)

However, that’s the opinion of only SOME of the ulama and many scholars disagreed with that statement and said that such a claim requires proof.

🍃 Shaikh Azeez bin Farhaan al-Anzi said:

“I have not memorized or come across a text from the the Prophet ﷺ or the noble companions that if an odd night is a Friday night it is Laylatul Qadr or more likely to be Laylatul Qadr.

However, it has been mentioned in the books of some preachers and attributed to some scholars, but really, this requires research and this is not a text or proof.

It cannot be said that this is proof that if Friday night coincides with an odd night from the last 10 nights that it is Laylatul Qadr or more likely to be Laylatul Qadr.

Rather a person should strive and look for Laylatul Qadr in ALL the last 10 nights of Ramadhaan.”

🍃 And Shaykh Sulaymaan al-Maajid said:

“We do not know of any evidence in Islaam to suggest that if the night before Friday coincides with an odd-numbered night, then it is Laylat al-Qadr.

Based on that, we cannot be certain of that or believe that it is true.

What is prescribed is to strive hard on ALL the last ten nights, for whoever does that will certainly have caught up with Laylat al-Qadr.”

So the best thing to do is to strive hard in the worship of Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala on ALL the last ten nights of Ramadhaan.

This way you’re sure to catch Laylatul Qadr because it will be one of those nights In Shaa’ Allaah.
