ANSWER

đŸ”ș1. SUHOOR time

As for the duaa for Suhoor, there’s NO specific duaa to be said that’s proven from the authentic practice or teachings of the Prophet ï·ș.

Remember, the intention is an action of the HEART.

We should resolve in our HEART that we are going to fast today.

That is ALL we need.

It is NOT from the Sharee’ah to say out loud, "I intend to fast", "I will fast tomorrow" etc as some people do.

🍃Ibn Taymiyah said:

“Whoever thinks in his heart that he will fast tomorrow has formed the intention.”

Also, there is NO SPECIFIC DUAA to be recited at the time of starting the fast that’s proven from the Sunnah.

Some people say the following:

‎نـَوَيْŰȘُ Ű”ÙŽÙˆÙ’Ù…ÙŽ ŰșŰŻŰ§Ù‹

â€ŽÙˆÙŽŰšÙŰ”ÙŽÙˆÙ’Ù…Ù ŰșÙŽŰŻŰ§Ù‹ نَّوَيْŰȘُ

BUT, there’s NO PROOF of this from the authentic Sunnah.

Rather it is BID’AH.

🍃The scholars said:

“The intention is an action of the heart.

The Muslim should resolve in his heart that he is going to fast tomorrow.

It is not prescribed for him to utter it out loud and say,

‎نـَوَيْŰȘُ Ű”ÙŽÙˆÙ’Ù…ÙŽ ŰșŰŻŰ§Ù‹

“I intend to fast tomorrow” or

â€ŽŰŁŰ”ÙˆÙ… ŰșŰŻŰ§Ù‹ لك

“I will fast tomorrow” or other phrases that have been innovated by some people.”

(Islamqa Fatwa 37643)

đŸ”ș2. IFTAAR time

🍃And as for a specific duaa to be said at the time of breaking the fast, then the Prophet ï·ș said:

â€ŽŰ°Ù‡Űš Ű§Ù„ŰžÙ…ŰŁ ÙˆŰ§ŰšŰȘلŰȘ Ű§Ù„ŰčŰ±ÙˆÙ‚ ÙˆŰ«ŰšŰȘ Ű§Ù„ŰŁŰŹŰ± Ű„Ù† ێۧۥ Ű§Ù„Ù„Ù‡

“Dhahaba al-‘zama’ wa abtallat al-‘urooq wa thabata al-ajr in sha Allaah

“the thirst is gone, the veins have been moistened and the reward is assured, if Allaah wills).”

(Abu Dawood, al-Bayhaqi; classed as hasan).

‌Dha’eef Hadeeth!

The hadeeth with the words

“Allaahumma laka sumtu wa ‘ala rizqika aftartu
.

â€ŽŰ§Ù„Ù„Ù‡Ù… لك Ű”Ù…ŰȘ وŰčلى ۱ŰČقك ŰŁÙŰ·Ű±ŰȘ

This is a DHA’EEF (weak) hadeeth, as stated by various scholars of hadeeth.

🍃Regarding this hadeeth, the scholars said:

“The du’a “Allahumma laka sumtu wa ‘ala rizqika aftartu

(O Allaah, for You have I fasted and by Your provision I have broken my fast)” was narrated by Abu Dawud, 2358.

It is a mursal hadeeth so it is dha’eef (weak).

Shaikh al-Albaani classed it as dha’eef in Da’eef Abi Dawud  (510).”

(Islamqa Fatwa 26879)

Therefore, it is better to avoid this duaa and stay with the authentic one.

🍃Also remember that it’s good to make your own duaa just before iftaar time.

That’s because our duaa is not rejected at Iftaar time.

🍃The Prophet ï·ș said:

"Three prayers are NOT REJECTED: the prayer of a parent, the prayer of a fasting person, and the prayer of a traveler." (al-Bayhaqi, saheeh by al-Albaani).

đŸ”șWhen to make our duaa?

🍃Shaikh ibn ‘Uthaymeen said:

“Duaa should be made BEFORE iftaar (breaking the fast), at Maghrib, because this combines weakness and humility, and because he is still fasting.

All of these are means of having one’s duaa’ answered.

After breaking the fast, one is relaxed and happy, and may become negligent.

But there is a hadeeth from the Prophet ï·ș which shows that the du’aa’ may be made AFTER breaking the fast.

It says:

‎" Ű°Ù‡Űš Ű§Ù„ŰžÙ…ŰŁ ÙˆŰ§ŰšŰȘلŰȘ Ű§Ù„ŰčŰ±ÙˆÙ‚ ÙˆŰ«ŰšŰȘ Ű§Ù„ŰŁŰŹŰ± Ű„Ù† ێۧۥ Ű§Ù„Ù„Ù‡ "

‘Thirst has gone, the veins are moist, and the reward is assured, if Allaah wills.”(Abu Dawood; hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood, 2066). This can only mean AFTER breaking the fast.”

(Fataawaa Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen)

So as the Shaikh said, first we can make our own duaa THEN break our fast THEN say this above duaa.

And Allaah knows best
